In our first class for the semester we drew two small motion exercises. In the first exercise was to draw a picture on one side of a piece of paper and a related image on the other side. After that was completed you attach string to each end. So if you were to twist the strings the piece of paper would flip and create a united image from the two pictures. In the first example is a paint brush and then it's splattering paint on the opposite side. In the second example is a hand and the motion is the hand being painted.

In the second exercise using a device that would turn and during the turning motion the images would be in sequence of a motion like a horse running. Another way of describing this, is the image is in a loop sequence.
